Reviews

Perfect addition to my shelves BLove having a cabinet on my shelves. I have organized my sewing, art material and tools using Ivan shelves. 5
Perfect and well madeHelenThis is a perfect little storage piece in my upstairs hallway. I have it on the base to lift it off the floor. So pretty and stylish. Easy to put together. Holds a lot! I love it and am going to buy other Ivar pieces for other rooms. 5
good value, not perfect AdamI don't use these raw, but stain and seal them. Whatever glue was used to patch over a flaw in the wood didn't take a stain the same way that the wood did, so there is an off color bit. Oh well, it's near the bottom.4
IVAR cupboardMargaretThis cupboard was easy to assemble, is a hood size, and made of solid wood. We put IKEA wooden feet on it to raise it a bit. The door hinges are adjustable so the doors will close properly after some adjustments.5
Shoddy CabinetSanjanaAs many reviews have noted the cabinet has a giant gap. I followed the instructions for adjusting it (multiple adjustments!) and while it lessened the gap it did not eliminate it. Further, someone has not been paying attention to the wood quality. I had one piece with a scrape in the middle (whatever, fine, I know how to use sand paper) but the left door on the cabinet has a knot filled with some kind of wood filler which looks awful. If it was on the interior I don’t think I’d care but on the front of the door?? Terrible quality control. I’m returning this cabinet tomorrow, exhausted and disappointed.1
Ivar cabinetPamelaGreat, exactly what we needed. Bought 2.5
IKEA changed the Ivar!JustinI bought 3 of these in the past and they were exactly the same dimensionally except they used to be 20in deep. I recently bought 2 more to match only to find out they're now only 12in deep, and more expensive! The 12in deep cabinet does not meet my needs and I'm really upset!1
Perfect for the spaceSandi B.Easy to assemble and hang. Perfect for the space with minimal finishing.5
BeautifulLoraI love this piece. I just wish it would go on sale so I can purchase 3 more .5
Nice for the priceNancyThe Ivar system is not flimsy, so it is very nice for what you pay for it. It’s very paintable and assemble fairly easily. The wood is solid, and it seems sturdy. Would recommend!4
Highly recommendAmritaNatural wood IVAR cabinet looks really good in person, I purchased 4 of them to give a console cabinet look!5
I love Ivar and was thrilled when Ikea brough it backBreck13 yrs ago I bought an entire framework of Ivar for displaying items in my room. I moved this past month was able to expand my display area with another cabinet and more shelving. It is still a great product for the price. Now I have to figure out how to get the new pieces mellowed to match the old!5
The doors hilariously keep fallingEmilieThe doors hilariously keep falling off. Having assembled an entire kitchen myself from Ikea, I know it's not me. It's the ivar.3
Not enough screws and warpedJessicaI got 11 instead of 16 screws to attach the doors and one of the wood panels was warped, so it was difficult to assemble. Other than that, it was fine so I'd still recommend it for the price, especially if you are planning to hack it.4
Good qualityJuditWould buy again.5
Ridiculous price hike but still worth itEricaGreat product and easy to assemble. I've purchased two sets so far in the narrow depth and created 2 sideboard/buffets in my home. Love that they are solid wood. I wish more ikea products were solid pine like this. Ikea should also bring back the IVAR Drawer/Chest .....the new standalone drawers do not look nice and only can be added to shelving units. Also as far as this particular ivar piece ...alot of people talk about the gap and the doors not laying level. You have to adjust the hinges people! It's easy once you get the hang of it. Also my only complaint is the price increase. I understand inflation but jeez these nearly doubled. last year this time....these were $70 each! Now they are $120 each! That is a 70% price increase!5
a good productsAndrewalways use 2 person when ever you stand it5
Highly recommendKrystenEasy to put together. Simple clean lines. Looks great.5
IF YOU DON’T MIND THE GAPMichelleHopefully you have level floors and don’t mind the ~1/2 inch gap the doors have on this IVAR storage unit. That being said I highly recommend. All but the backside of this product is solid pine wood (back is particle board) so the price is great for this type of wood, however I was unaware once assembled the doors have a rather noticeable gap. After I read several reviews everyone talks about this - so FYI it’s true. To add to the gap, if your floors are not perfectly level (as many are not) the doors may hang slightly open/drag upon opening as this piece sits pretty flush to the floor. Assembly time was about :35. Cheers.3
Even after following exact instructionsChandniEven after following exact instructions the door alignment did not come out right. Not worth the money1

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favorite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the tree species, it is durable, beautiful and renewable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood.
