Bins fall constantly SarahWe’ve had these for over a year and it’s just gotten worse. Even completely empty the bins fall out constantly. It’s slightly better when there’s a lid on the bin but definitely not worth the money for the hassle they are. My 6 year old struggles to clean independently because she can’t get the bins in/out without them falling.2
Wanted to love it CharisaI wish I had read the reviews before buying this. The bins barely fit and are constantly falling down even with only a couple toys in it. If my son tries to pull them out to play with something inside a bin it just falls out since the spacing is so wide compared to the size of the bins. The white one with the plastic rails work really well but unfortunately this wood version just isn't worth the money since it's basically useless.1
Fantastic shelf, shoddy assembly.ConnieTo start, I LOVE this shelf. The wood is solid, it looks beautiful in my daughter's room, and it's perfect for both organizing toys and using the shelves for play--we keep her cash register on the bottom shelf for playing store. However, in the first one we bought, the holes did not align correctly, so assembling it was literally impossible. We brought it to our local IKEA, and they got us a new one. My husband had a hunch and asked them to try to assemble it to make sure it didn't have the same problem--it did. They got another off the shelf--same problem. The third one that day (fourth total) was able to be put together. TL;DR: Great shelf, only buy if you have an IKEA close to you since the holes might not be drilled properly.2
Tubs can't handle much weightAntonellaThe tubs buckle too easily without even being full. And when they buckle they don't stay fit in the unit.2
Bins don’t staySusieWanted to love this as we have been wanting this for so long for my sons toys. The bins do not stay in place. They just fall. Passed the date for the return policy. I just wanted to put it out there so other people knew about it as I wish I did before I bought it.2
Five stars from me!KerrieI bought two of these when my son was 2 years old. Way to many toys (mostly lego’s). We purchased 1 wood one and 1 while one. After 3 weeks the white one started to look weird. My son kept saying it feel again mom. I didn’t believe him until I was cleaning his room and he was correct. The white one has plastic groves for the bin to slide in unlike the wood one they didn’t it was just carved out and the bins slid in securely. If you have it against the wall if not kids will play slide the bins through and watch the toys go splat on the ground or bam they all fall out. Sorry but it’s true lol. I got way off subject. I miss that small playful loving toddler. Then they grow up to be a teen and don’t want a kiss or anything. Again, off topic. After the white one started to bow due to the plastic slats. I returned the white one and purchased another wood one and I still have both of them 12 years later. They are still in excellent condition!5
Nothing lines up. Couldn't assembleFranciscoNothing lines up. Couldn't assemble it.1
Exactly what I was looking forChristiEasy to put together! The wood was good solid quality. Excellent storage option!! Exactly what I was looking for. I drive 2.5 hours to our nearest IKEA and it’s always worth the drive.5
Excellent for toy storage. BinsSherryExcellent for toy storage. Bins are just right. Easy to assemble. Great price.5
Great storage for my son'sShannanGreat storage for my son's toys and this piece can grow with him.5
Great itemVerified BuyerPerfect for our needs. Sturdy. My only complaint is sometimes the baskets pop off the carved out track.4
Bins fall outVerified BuyerWe've had the same problem with the bins falling out. We've only had these about a year and a half, and we're already replacing them. We're pretty disappointed. It's a great idea, but it just doesn't work.2
Same bowing problem as othersVerified BuyerWe have two of these. After about a year, some of the bins won't stay put because of bowing. I will probably get a more of the shelves so I can at least use it as a book shelf.3
Sturdy enough for kids!Verified BuyerThese storage combos made it in a move from Germany to America and are still going strong. They are kid tested and mom approved. I don't worry about the kids climbing all over them and it breaking down. Toy cleanup is a simple 5 minutes or less. I have recommended to all my friends. I do recommend the pine because the other two color choices are hard or impossible to clean marks from. :/5
Functional and sturdyVerified BuyerIt 's a great item. It was used already for couple years and going to serve for another.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favorite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the tree species, it is durable, beautiful and renewable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood.
